Senior Hockey Coach: John Jackson
John was appointed in September 2013 as Senior Hockey Coach for Marlborough College. Currently, he represents Ireland senior men, has 132 caps to date and is Captain. He also plays in the English Premier League and the European Hockey League with Reading Hockey Club. John holds a hockey Level 2 coaching award (Level 3 due for completion summer 2014) and a hockey Level 1 umpiring award.
From 2011 to 2013, John played and coached professionally in Belgium at Braxgata Hockey Club. He was assistant coach of the Ladies 1st XI that reached the play-offs and head coach of the U16 girls that won the 2012/2013 National Championship.
Between April 2010 and September 2011, John returned to Ireland to become the first and only Sport Northern Ireland Active Communities hockey coach. His responsibility was to increase participation in elderly, disabled and youth groups.
During 2004 and 2010 John also played for Loughborough Students University Mens’ Hockey Club (three of the six years completing an undergraduate degree at Loughborough University). He won Player of the Year twice in 2005/2006 and 2009/2010, captained for two years and won numerous outdoor and indoor events. During this time, he also coached several University teams and boys’ hockey at Ratcliffe College, Leicestershire.
