Girls’ Tennis: Regional Play-Offs

College lost at the last hurdle of national qualification in the regional play-offs against St. Helen and St. Katherine (Oxford), in very trying wet conditions on Wednesday.

Against higher ranked opposition players, College lost 8-4 (this was in the round of 32 with the top 16 schools from Great Britain going through to the National Finals, a feat achieved in 2012 by both our girls and boys teams).

The team was:

Clemmie Keyes (MO L6) who lost 6/0, 6/2
Ellie Spark (MM Sh) who lost 6/3, 6/3
Stella Smith (EL Sh) who won 7/5, 3/6, (11-9)
Katie Rolls (MM L6th) who lost 6/0, 6/2

We won one of the two doubles matches and Isobel Woods (PR L6th) and Clemmie Keyes played well losing 6/2, 7/5 to their top pair.

Special mention must go to Stella Smith and Ellie Spark who are both in the Shell playing in a National Under-18 competition and doing very well.

Well done also to all the L6th who will be back next year, as such this bodes well for the future of Girls’ Tennis at Marlborough.
