OM Golf Society Match

High quality golf and excellent camaraderie were to the fore as Marlborough College Golf Team took on the might of the Old Marlburian Golf Society (OMGS) this week.

A strong Marlborough team was led by scratch handicapper Jamie Amor (C3 U6) who once again led by example, showing off some fine ball-striking around the Marlborough course.

He was given able back-up by regular first teamers Charlie Souster (C1 U6), Erik Dell (CO L6) and up-and-coming Lower School players Hugo Yaxley (SU Re), Oliver Plaistowe (B1 Re), Oscar Powell (SU Re) and Bruno Espinosa de los Monteros (BH Sh).

The College was also able to call up talented reinforcements from the hockey ranks including Worcester Bawden (C3 L6), Alex Demilecamps (C2 L6) and Ed Carter (C3 U6).

Every match was closely fought, going down to at least the 17th hole, but in the end experience won the day with the OMs running out 3-2 victors in the five-match contest.

All the matches were played in fine spirit with team members staying behind to socialise in the clubhouse with their opponents – the majority of whom attended Marlborough College the 1960s and 1970s and were keen to find out how the school had changed since their day.

Master in Charge of Golf, Joe Lane, said: “It was great to see the lads playing some good golf and socialising with the OMs.

“The game of golf is all about camaraderie and I hope one day this cohort will come back and play against the school as old boys.”
