University Successes 2016

Over the course of this academic year Marlburians have succeeded on a great number of fronts at the College, and for many, their achievements have been crowned by acceptances to some of the world’s greatest universities.

On the UK scene, eighteen received offers or unconditional places from Cambridge and Oxford in January, and a further six have gained offers to read Medicine in prestigious universities up and down the country. These developments complement the picture in August when the majority (83%) of Marlburians secured their first choice courses, winning places at universities such as Edinburgh (26) Bristol (24), Exeter (16), and Durham (12). 80% were placed at Russell Group Universities, and 82% at the Sutton Trust Top 30 UK Universities.

Turning to the global picture, 64% of Marlburians reached universities that rank in the QS Top 100 Global Universities.  A record number of these landed places in the USA (five to NYU, four to Northeastern, Yale, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown and Barnard, Tufts, Notre Dame, Wesleyan, Boston College, Trinity College, William and Mary, Michigan, University of Virginia, University of Southern California, Emory, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, George Washington, Emerson, Syracuse, Indiana Bloomington), while six pupils were accepted at McGill in Canada, another truly world-class institution. Other international destinations include the École hôtelière in Lausanne, IE University in Madrid, and The University of Sydney.

For their expertise and tireless hard work in helping our pupils to achieve these excellent university outcomes, our thanks go to Guy Nobes (Head of Guidance) and his hugely knowledgeable Guidance team.
