Gerard Evenden, Senior Partner from Foster & Partners, Architects, and project leader of many famous international architectural landmarks visited Marlborough on Wednesday 14th September.
He gave a talk to pupils and his theme was his leading role in the design of the Canary Wharf Underground Station which the Pre-U art historians study as an outstanding example of contemporary building technology.
Mr Evenden spoke to a packed Garnett Room, and offered some true insights into the complications of building functionally in challenging terrain between dry-dock space and water, as well as the political and legal changes that governed the conduct of the project. He also spoke about why this building, which is larger than the Canary Wharf Tower lying on its side, has come to be seen as a model for infrastructure projects of this scale and scope around the world.
