1871 Challenge Cup
The 1871 Challenge Cup rugby match, played between a Marlborough College Common Room XV and Marlborough RFC Vets, took place on Sunday.
The fixture is so named because Marlborough RFC was a founding member of the Rugby Football Union in 1871 and at the time the Club was entirely made up of boys and beaks from the College.
After a win for the College in last year’s inaugural encounter, the ‘town’ were the winners this time around after a tense 28-25 encounter – played in fantastic spirit on a perfect Hamersley surface.
Until next time!
