Pupil Achievements: Michaelmas Term

Congratulations to Max Fillingham (TU L6) who represented England at ‘The Irish International Open’ in Dublin and won a Bronze medal in the U18 male section. More recently, he finished in the top 12 of the Men’s Senior Section at the Karate World Cup in Venice, where he also reached the U18 Bronze medal play-off.

Henry Clark (C3 Hu) has gained a place in the Southern Region Cadet Men’s Epee team for a two-day Regional Tournament at Millfield on 17th and 18th December. His place was earned based on his performance in the Wilts County Championship, (1st U16), Southern Region, (3rd U16) and the British Youth Championships, (45th U16).

Congratulations to Giles Hocking (C1 Sh), Chessie Armytage (MM Sh), Alex Dunlop (MO Re), Miranda Dibden (NC L6), India Shakespeare (EL Hu), Freddie Hazlitt (C1 Hu) and Nick Rusinov (SU Hu) who have been named in the England Hockey Performance Centre squads. Click here for more information.

Marlborough hosted the Area Trials for Cross-Country running on Thursday afternoon. Sophie Smith (DA Sh) was first and Lara Smyth-Osbourne (IH Sh) second in the Junior Girls race. Both girls qualify for the Wiltshire Schools Championships in January.

Helena Mackie (U6 Music Scholar, Morris)  has recently been appointed Principal Oboe of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. This followed two intense rounds of auditions, against formidable competition most notably from Government appointed Specialist Music Schools, and represents a fine achievement. This will lead to performances during 2017 throughout the UK, most notably at the BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall next summer. Bravo indeed.

Over half-term, Charlie Madden (C3 Re) competed in the U17 World Triathlete Championships in Sarasota, coming 15th out of 21 competitors.

Ben Borrowdale (C1 U6 and ex-GCSE Astronomy pupil) recently became the first College pupil to gain a Distinction award in the new British Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad A2 Challenge paper.

Well done to the Upper Sixth Music scholars, who along with pupils from the Remove to Lower Sixth, made significant and valuable contributions at the annual London Music Scholars’ Gala Concert at the beautiful Princess Alexandra Hall at the Royal Over-Seas League. Click here for a review.

Congratulations to Sarah Mattinson (MM U6) and Jonathan Venn (C3 U6) – both of whom are members of the Chapel Choir – who have been awarded choral scholarships at the University of Oxford.

In Lacrosse, Claudie Grainger (IV Re) is a member of the English Lacrosse Talent Pathway, and she was joined by Anna Tchen (NC Re), Sophie Kirkwood (EL Re) and Georgia Lane-Fox (SU L6) in being selected for the Wiltshire County Teams.

On Sunday 2nd October Milo Kennedy (PR Re) won the hybrid showjumping/cross-country event at Hartpury College – thanks to a magnificent round in the 1m class.

Congratulations to Sophie Smith (DA Sh) who has been selected for the South West U14 Girls’ Representative squad and will take part in several training weekends over the forthcoming season.

Charlie Madden (C3 Re) came ninth in the U17 Boys’ European Triathle Championships and has qualified for the World Triathle Championships in Florida in October with the GB team.

Jemima Stratton (MM Re) has qualified for the National Jump Championships in October.

William Millar (C1 Hu) and Georgina Millar (MM 2010-15) were selected and represented the Kenyan National side for polo this summer.

Billy Mead (C1 U6) was selected to represent the South & South West region in the England Development Programme U17 Super 4s at Loughborough. He scored 50 against the North in the final.

Elijah Samuel (LI U6) has also played for Hampshire Academy this summer and scored two half-centuries.

At the end of last term, CCF cadets were overall winners for the fifth year in a row achieving 1st in the Air Rifle, 1st in the GP Shoot and 3rd in the Drill.
