The Marlborough College Polo team finished runner-up in the Copenhagen Shield, held at Guards Polo Club on Sunday 21st May.

After a 3-2 win over Eton at the semi-final stage, Marlborough lost 3-2 to Harrow in a thrilling final.

Captain Oli Fanshawe (C3 U6) led by example and his hard work and contribution to some excellent team play meant for an excellent afternoon. He organised the team well to a memorable win at such a prestigious event.

Benny Nott (C3 L6) played well above his handicap and scored some good goals in a debut at this level. Our coach Giles Ormerod said that Milo Sweet played the best game he had seen him play and was very unlucky not to produce the winning goal late in the final chukka.

Unfortunately an error close to goal in extra-time allowed Harrow an opportunity for what proved to be the winning penalty. It was good to have Gregor McSkimming in attendance and his support, along with that of many pupils, was greatly appreciated.

The prize giving took place on the La Martina lawn at Guards with all schools, players and parents then able to watch the final of the 15 goal La Martina Queen Mother Centenary Cup.
