Week One: Sporting Reflections

The Michaelmas Term certainly got off to a superb start with the first round of matches. The atmosphere was buzzing as the boys from the XV warmed up and the U14 Girls A and B hockey whipped up a storm with some dominant wins.

The Yearlings Rugby embarked upon a successful triangular and began to show some exciting talent and potential. Rugby training fixtures with Stowe and Prior Park for the Yearlings, Junior Colts and Colts was an extremely positive way to start the term and it was wonderful to see enthusiasm, energy and determination littering the pitches.

The U16 hockey held the late slot and kept parents and coaches entertained until late into the afternoon with some exciting hockey. The away teams returned home in high spirits having represented the College in both hockey and rugby with true Marlborough spirit. There were fantastic results for all the senior rugby teams at home and inspiring performances for the younger years. The boys and girls wore their Marlborough strips with pride, showing resilience and determination at all levels.

In football, the 1st XI soaked up some competitive opposition in the form of the OMs with some exciting performances. Lacrosse competed in their first pre-season tournament and came home wiser, more cohesive as a team and clear in their objectives for the season ahead. The weekend wrapped up with a Rackets match on Sunday for the Senior Boys’ Pair with some extremely exciting contests, and various other training opportunities, including the first junior house football match between Littlefield and C2. Eight Marlborough boys also played for Wiltshire U19s Water Polo against Hampshire.

It remains for me to congratulate Archie Griffin (C3 U6 – U18 Wales Rugby), Amy Beckett (DA Re – U16 England Hockey), Anashe Chisadza (MO L6 – England U18 Water Polo), Honor Mills (EL Hu – U17 England Lacrosse) and Daisy Pank (MM Re – England Touch Rugby, South) for their superb achievements in National selection during the summer and last week.

We look forward to the next challenge this weekend as we take on St Edward’s, Magdalen and Warminster at rugby, Clifton at hockey and Bedales for football. Lacrosse has the Wiltshire & Dorset County Tournament and the Shooting 1st VIII have a quadrangular match at Bisley.
