Commemoration Day

The final event of Marlborough College’s 175th anniversary celebrations is Commemoration Day on Saturday 26th May 2018.

2018 also marks 50 years of girls at Marlborough and celebrations to mark this landmark occasion will continue into Michaelmas, when first cohort arrived.

The day will include a wide range of events and activities, with the highlights including:

9.30am - Girls’ Cricket XI v Rugby School (T20) on the XI

10am - 11.30am - OM Reception in the Pavilion Marquee

10.30am – Upper Sixth Prize Giving followed by a Commemoration Service in Chapel for the Upper Sixth and their parents

11am - Shell play, Grimm Tales (Ellis), opening of OM 175/50 Art 'New Contemporaries' exhibition (Mount House Gallery), A level, GCSE and Shell Art exhibition (Art School), Remove Obstacle Challenge (Hamersley), EPQ project displays

12pm - Drinks Reception for all parents and OMs on Polloi

12.30pm - Chairman of Council and Master's welcome speeches followed by the unveiling of the 175/50 Celebration Glass on Polloi

12.40pm - The Beagles demonstration of hound racing (Hamersley)

1pm - 1st XI Cricket v Lord’s Taverners Celebrity XI (T20) on the XI, picnic lunches on the playing fields

2pm - OM Sports fixtures including Fives, Hockey, Lacrosse and Rackets

2.15pm - The Master and Kirsty Young in conversation with music in the Pavilion Marquee followed by the unveiling of The Master's Portrait

3.00pm - House Challenge Final in the Hamersley Marquee

3.15pm - Drinks reception for 

3.30pm – Second Prize Giving for the Shell, Remove, Hundred and Lower Sixth for prize-winners and their parents

3.30-4.15pm - Drinks Reception at the Mount House Gallery to celebrate the OM 175/50 'New Contemporaries' Art Exhibition

4.00pm - Tea available in the Pavilion Marquee

4.30pm – Lord's Taverners Celebrity XI vs Help for Heroes XI (T20) on the XI

There will also be catering available to purchase throughout the afternoon from World Food, wine from the Private Cellar and Smoking Beetle.

The day will also offer all those connected with the Marlborough College community the chance to say thank you to the outgoing Master of Marlborough College, Jonathan Leigh, who will retire in August 2018 after six outstanding years of service.
