Innovation

Marlborough College is a joyous and colourful community where scholarship is cherished, creativity is celebrated, diversity is evidenced and conversation is paramount. We are a fine school but we know that we cannot stand still; honest self-scrutiny is the antidote to complacency and stasis.

For years Marlborough has led the way in innovating within the educational landscape. We were the first school of our kind to admit girls in 1969 and the first to become fully coeducational over 20 years ago. We pioneered new academic initiatives such as Business Studies and the study of Chinese and Arabic. That tradition continues today with launch of Marlborough College Malaysia in 2012, a unique project in that the school will not be a franchise but built upon true partnership, sharing Marlborough's DNA at its heart.

We look to foster artistic, cultural and political societies which will promote the rigour and range of our conversation. We aim to attract to Marlborough teachers of promise and ability, and we value those foreign students who join us each year and who bring with them fresh views and different experiences. We welcome scholars and artists of international reputation to speak and perform regularly at the school, and we urge our established teachers to take part in exchanges with colleagues from abroad.

We look constantly to adapt and improve the ways we bring our pupils to draw on the richness of tradition so that they may meet contemporary challenges. A number of academic innovations have taken place in the last few years - the introduction of Form, EPQ and Pre-U are all examples of how we are looking to enhance the experience not just for pupils, but for our dedicated Common Room as well.
