A Level Results

2011 Summary

Close analysis of the A level results must take into account three key factors, notably the absence of Pre U English and RE results from any A level analysis, the inclusion of A* grades, and the fact that this year the College received the first set of IB results.

Overall, 52% of grades were achieved at A*/A. 83% of grades were achieved at A*/A/B. A slightly higher number of grades below B were recorded this year. In 2010, 81 grades fell into this category whereas this year, 85 grades were recorded at C, D or E. 80 pupils achieved grades which were better than three A grades (360 UCAS points); whilst 54 pupils achieved grades in excess of 3 A*(420 UCAS points).

On a departmental level, several departments should be congratulated on achieving a percentage of A* grades in excess of the overall College average, in particular Art, Drama, Latin, Mathematics who achieved a percentage A* grade at least 50% above the College average.

Results in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) were outstanding. 49 pupils took the examination with 32 achieving A* and 7 A grades. The EPQ represents an opportunity for pupils to explore areas of academic research which are not on the examination curriculum, and led to a breadth of topics being covered.
