Marlborough girls have established an enviable reputation in netball, regularly competing successfully at Area, County, Regional and National levels. The U16 team achieved a top ten finish at the England Netball National Schools competition in March 2018.
Netball has featured as the major girls’ sport in the Lent Term since coeducation and, in competition, has developed into one of the College’s most successful sports. Eighteen teams compete regularly, involving up to 200 girls on match days.
Marlborough netball has excellent links with Wiltshire County Academy for those wishing to progress their playing experience. The College also supports athletes representing both Surrey Storm and Team Bath Futures.
Netball is played across Fox’s Bridge and Hony Courts, nine in total, situated in a picturesque setting below the athletics track. In addition, the Sports Hall is used regularly for both training and matches. Netball teams also have access to our state of the art Performance Gym and Human Movement Studio for focused athletic development sessions.
Eighteen teams compete in block fixtures against major schools which include Millfield, Canford, Bradfield, Wellington, Bryanston and King Edward’s, Bath. There are five teams at both U14 and U15 level, two at U16, and six at Open level.
England Netball National Schools competitions are entered at U14, U16 and U19 level with teams achieving regular success.
Marlborough’s 1st VII were victorious at the Bradfield College Invitational Tournament in Lent 2018, securing victories over Dauntsey’s, Epsom College, St Gabriel’s and St Mary’s Ascot.
Seventeen pupils and three staff toured Barbados in February 2018, returning undefeated following fixtures with St George Secondary School, The Lester Vaughan School, Galaxy Stars, Shottas, Bico Delight and Barbados U16. The tour gave the girls an important chance to develop camaraderie, sample the Bajan culture as well as pitch their skills against a different style of netball.
Alicia Beckett, Harriet Eyles and Ariana Jones are currently training with Wiltshire County Netball. Scarlet Thurner has been selected for Surrey Storm U15, whilst Ella Warner has been selected for Team Bath U17.
