Hockey is the major sport for boys in the Lent Term. The game was first played at Marlborough College in 1874. There has always been a close link between Marlborough Hockey and the Varsity Match; nine Marlburians played in the first Cambridge-Oxford clash in 1890. No fewer than thirty six of the Cambridge and Oxford captains have been Marlborough pupils.
Facilities Matches, Competition and Events
The College has two all-weather, sand-based astro-turf pitches, one of which has floodlighting, and six grass hockey pitches.
The 2006 XI completed their match schedule undefeated at home, and the 1st Colts reached the Divisional stage of the National Schools' Hockey Tournament, losing in the Semi-Finals.
In recent years Marlburian hockey players have also been prominent on the international stage with Christophe Eimer and Max Klink both representing Germany at senior level.
