Traditionally, the 1st XI team has been called ‘The Granham Casuals’ or ‘Grannies’. It has played Sunday matches for more than fifty years throughout Michaelmas and Lent.
Recently, the sport has been developed so that, in the Lent Term, there are also Saturday fixtures for those not required to play Hockey (the major sport in this term).
Facilities Matches, Competition and Events
Marlborough has seven football pitches.
During the Lent Term we field up to ten teams at U18, U16 and U15 age groups. In the Michaelmas Term we field three teams.
During Michaelmas, we play some Michaelmas Term soccer-playing schools including Eton, Winchester, Bradfield and Charterhouse. In the Lent Term we also play schools such as Sherborne, King’s Worcester, Charterhouse, Radley, Monmouth, Wellington and Bromsgrove.
In July 2005 we entered a team in the Gothia Cup (The 31st World Youth Cup) which is held annually in Gothenburg, Sweden. 1,500 teams (boys and girls) from 60 nations compete in this competition.
