Girls' Tennis

Mistress in charge:     Miss L Rowlands

Tennis is the major game for girls in the Summer Term. It has featured at the centre of the sporting programme for girls since they were first admitted into the Sixth Form and, since full coeducation, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of teams playing competitively. Squad coaching continues during the winter months and private coaching is available throughout the year.

The College has thirteen hard courts and twelve all-weather astroturf courts. There is also an indoor court in the Sports Hall. In addition, three boarding houses have their own courts.

Matches, Competition and Events

Thirteen teams compete in block fixtures against major schools. The College enters both the Loveband and Asbury-Bailey tournaments held as part of the Independent Schools’ Tennis Championships at Eton. The 1st IV enters the Aberdare Cup – the National Schools’ competition. For the past two years, a Marlborough U15 pair has won the Asbury-Bailey Plate competition at the Independent School’s Tennis Championships.

Pre-season coaching has taken place in the Easter holidays at Val do Lobo or, more recently, at La Manga in Spain.
