The House Song Competition

 More Recent News »

One of the highlights of the boarding house calendar is the House Song Competition. Just before the October half term exeat, the school packs into the Memorial Hall to hear songs delivered by each of the fourteen boarding houses. Every pupil in the school is involved and the competition is atmospheric, good-natured but also intense. Rigorous practising in House precedes the preliminary rounds before the final competition which is judged by an external adjudicator.

The main event is preceded by the House Harmony Competition in which smaller, select groups of singers perform close harmony music as they vie for the prestigious cup.

Competition Winners

This year, Littlefield were judged to be the overall winners of the Song Competition following their rousing rendition of The Rhythm of Life. Old competition rivals, Barton Hill and Elmhurst won prizes respectively for Best Boys' House and Best Girls' House, while traditionally strong Preshute took the prize for Best Mixed House.

Littlefield were also winners of the Harmony Competition, their performance of Bohemian Rhapsody being especially polished and professional.
