This was an event bursting with a display of obvious and diverse talent, evident in such items as a short film entitled A Day at Marlborough and Emma Hobrough’s Greek reading.
Josh Jordan threw his white gloves into the audience before taking the piano stool to begin the evening with his performance of the intricate Toccata by Khatachurian.
The Remove (Year 10) Poetry Slam group followed with their witty presentation of Gravity, commendably keeping their knees in rhythmical synchronisation throughout.
A show of art work was a new idea to Illumination. Will Stokes exhibited his remarkable A2 composition, I Have a Dream accompanied by a slide show.
Tory Popplewell captivated a silent audience with a reading of Susie Ponsford's prize-winning poem, Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Angharad Walker’s reflective and thoughtful piece, Snow, evoked a similar mood.
Both were in stark contrast to the comic sketch, Parent Power, and an extract courtesy of Monty Python. Big Band performed September with James Soper demonstrating his expert skills of improvisation (also seen earlier in the evening in Blue Delusion).
Some of Illumination’s most frequent, recent performers gave a moving rendition of Abba's Thank you for the Music, followed by a slide show courtesy of the Geography Department, Tibet Illumination; both items were dedicated to Lily Hastings-Bass in whose memory this Illumination was held, funds being donated to the ‘ABC' charity chosen by Lily’s parents.
Emma Finlayson played us out with Carl Davis’s Elegy.
