You may be aware of recent press coverage relating to rugby fixtures between Marlborough and Wellington. Neither school wanted these matters to reach the Press and neither school initiated the articles printed in the ‘Daily Telegraph’. The first such article offered a misleading and incomplete version of events and cast an unwarranted shadow over Marlborough’s rugby reputation. The second article placed more facts in the public domain but also sought to sensationalise matters.
There have been difficulties between us but they have centred upon rugby: in many other ways we enjoy a first-rate working relationship with colleagues at Wellington. The decision to suspend rugby fixtures between the two schools was designed to remove a source of tension and safeguard our wider partnership.
