Lord Malloch Brown (former UN Deputy Secretary-General and Minster of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) addressed the question 'Are governments going global?'  He was followed by Dr Robin Niblett (Director of Chatham House, the leading think tank on international affairs) who spoke on the topic 'The World Today'.

The event culminated  in a panel discussion where the two speakers were joined by Lt. Col. Whitchurch from the UK Defence Academy, who is involved with NATO’s anti-corruption in Afghanistan. They fielded questions from the pupils with refreshing candour and offered sharp insight and perspective.  Discussion touched on issues such as the ‘War on Terror’, current threats to global order and peace, the Iraq War, and development and corruption.

The conference concluded on a sobering note as the panel addressed the question ‘What hope is there for the world’s “Bottom Billion”?’
