The original Elmhurst is a mid Nineteenth Century private house that was extended to accommodate girls in 1989 when it became one of the first three girls' boarding houses. It accommodates 65 girls and is set in its own garden with a purpose built Sixth Form wing (opened in 2005). It is about three minute's' walk from Court and is set back from the north side of Bath Road.

Jean McFarland arrived in Marlborough to teach Chemistry in the Lent Term 2005 and was appointed Housemistress of Elmhurst from September 2006.

She has been involved on the extra-curricular side in netball, tennis and conservation and has been a tutor in Barton Hill. She is married to Mark, a teacher, and they have two teenaged daughters.
