Politics

Politics is now one of the largest departments in the College with over 120 pupils choosing to take it at A level.

Few academic subjects can claim to be so central to our understanding of everyday life and by choosing to study it, pupils will find out how and why politics dominates domestic and international news as well as how political decision-making impacts on so many facets of our lives.

Departmental Aims

In the Lower Sixth, Pupils will develop a good theoretical understanding of the nature of British political institutions, how they operate and how they interact.

This will be extended in the Upper Sixth by a comprehensive exploration of key ideological traditions and global issues such as poverty, human rights, humanitarian intervention, terrorism, and the environment.

Pupils are also encouraged to develop and articulate their ideas and opinions in classroom debates and also to cultivate efficient research and reading skills.
