Music Scholarships

A significant number of scholarships and generous bursaries are offered at both the Shell and Lower Sixth entry points. Guidelines for these can be found in the main scholarship prospectus. Merit is determined by potential and performance at the main scholarship auditions. Pre-auditions and information assessment are encouraged and welcome. These can be arranged by appointment at any time with the Artistic Director.

The String Scholarship Fund

This is a flexible award made at the discretion of the Artistic Director to one or more candidates who are worthy of particular support in addition to or instead of a main music scholarship. This is particularly geared to violin and viola players but in exceptional cases could be extended to cellists or double bassists.

Music Scholars

There are currently approximately 35 music scholars in the school. Scholars are offered three free instrumental music lessons each week and are mentored by the Artistic Director through assessment and performing opportunities both within and outside the College. Where applicable, individual learning programmes are designed to meet the demands and needs of those wishing to study music at conservatoire or university following Marlborough and regular consultation lessons are provided for the scholars with the visiting consultants.
