This term a new enrichment programme for Swindon Academy Primary School pupils was initiated.  The aim of this programme is to inspire pupils with academic challenges and to expand their cultural experience.

One hundred Year 5 pupils from both Academy primary schools have now visited our Observatory for an enthralling hands-on discovery afternoon of astronomical activities, and by March all of these pupils will also have visited the College for cultural activities centered around an afternoon tea, and also visits to the College Mound and our Egyptian Mummy. In the future we hope to expand the programme to include other academic and cultural activities not on offer in Swindon.

Academy students are routinely invited to attend College lectures, and recently approximately one hundred pupils were thrilled and informed at a Chemistry lecture delivered by Professor Tim Harrison from Bristol University.

Each Monday afternoon, Swindon Academy Grammar Stream pupils visit Marlborough College for lessons in Latin.  This is a two-year course which is part of a larger enrichment programme.

Sixteen Swindon Academy residential visits are planned for this academic year, and four have been completed successfully with the help of our PE, Maths and Music departments,

The Reading Buddies activity at Swindon Academy continues to benefit pupils from both schools. The response of our pupils to this mentoring role is impressive, and the weekly interactions between pupils is transformative for all involved. The work of our pupils can have a powerful positive effect.

Teachers from both schools continue to collaborate, and in December we have hosted another round of teacher training opportunities for newly appointed Academy teachers across a range of disciplines.

Many other Academy visits have taken place throughout the term, including an Art Department workshop and an Extended Project research visit to the Memorial Library.

The Swindon Academy Carol Service took place on Monday 12th December in the Marlborough College Chapel.
