Languages Study Day

Category: Academic, General, Community

On Friday 3rd February, 10 of our Lower Sixth Modern Linguists attended the Why study languages? day hosted by St Mary's Calne.

Lecturers from Pembroke College, Cambridge led the day, starting with an introduction to studying Modern Languages at University, followed by sessions in two new languages, selected from Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Linguistics and Portuguese. The day concluded with a question and answer session and an explanation of the Cambridge admissions arrangements.

This was an excellent day, giving some of our high-flying linguists a first-rate introduction to the language learning opportunities available at University level. Many thanks to St Mary's Calne for organising the day, and to Ms Li (Head of Chinese) for accompanying the Marlborough group.

Andrew Brown
Head of Modern Languages
