Charles Barclay - Royal Astronomical Society

Category: Academic

On Friday 12th May, at the 2017 Annual General Meeting in Burlington House, Piccadilly, Charles Barclay was elected Vice-President of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS).

Charles teaches Physics and Astronomy at the College, and is, in fact, Director of the Blackett Observatory, Head of Astronomy, and Director of the Extended Project. He is also Chair of Examiners for GCSE Astronomy.

We warmly congratulate Charles on his appointment, especially as it has been very many years since the RAS elected someone to this post who does not hold a Chair in university research. Vice-Presidents of the past include John Herschel and Charles Babbage.

We wish Charles well in this prestigious role, and are pleased that both pupils and staff of the College will continue to benefit from his passion and expertise in all things astronomical.
