Modern Languages Quiz

Category: Academic, General, Events

In an exciting afternoon of quizzing, Year 8 students from seven local schools fought it out in the European Day of Languages Quiz on Tuesday 26th September.

Sample slides of Russian, Japanese, Hebrew and the like were followed by sample bursts of Turkish, Malay, Welsh and more, delivered by bilingual Marlburians. The air crackled with different languages and with the frenzied buzz of linguistic connections being made. General knowledge rounds followed (sample questions below) and after the five rounds it was the team from Pinewood School who emerged victorious. We hope that Downe House, Swindon Academy, Horris Hill, Pewsey Vale school, St Francis & St John’s will all be back for more next year.  Experts estimate that 50% of the world’s languages will disappear in the lifetime of these children, so the richness and vitality of the world’s languages is well worth celebrating.
