Prof Clare Robertson: Looking at the Carracci

Category: Art, General, Speakers

On Wednesday 6th February the History of Art Society welcomed as guest speaker Professor Clare Robertson, Head of History of Art at the University of Reading. Her theme was the important but often overlooked Bolognese artist Annibale Carracci, a contemporary of Caravaggio in the Rome of the early seventeenth century. Professor Robertson spoke in particular on his astonishing ceiling in the Palazzo Farnese which he executed between 1597 and 1601. This was very useful for those among her audience who will be heading to Rome next month on the History of Art department trip.
