Review: ‘Kontakt’ Exhibition

Category: Art

A multidisciplinary collection of artworks were thoughtfully explored by the Marlborough College community and guests at the opening of our Artist in Residence, Julia Schuster’s solo show ‘Kontakt’.

Through also transforming the once familiar gallery space at the Mount House, Julia presented a highly contemporary show to compliment her perceptive art, that questions human awareness, connectivity, touch and identity.

As an interdisciplinary artist, Julia employs film, photography, ceramics and the written word with an egalitarian approach and this can clearly be witnessed within this diligently curated collection of works.

An international panel of judges from Porzellanikon in Germany, the British Ceramic Biennial, Staffordshire University and the Crafts Council of Ireland were highly impressed with Julia’s practice and have recently awarded her ‘Future Light in Ceramics’ for 2017/18. As an ambassador for innovative art Julia will now be creating a new collection of artworks and exhibiting in Berlin and Frankfurt. A number of works displayed in the Mount House were part of Julia’s winning submission to this prestigious competition.

Visits to the exhibition in the Mount House Gallery by GCSE and A level students have already led to many lively discussions with Julia, regarding her artistic process; inspiring our students to investigate new approaches to their creative practices within the Art School.

Julia’s art offers much to reflect on and we look forward to seeing her future projects develop at Marlborough College over the academic year.

Kontakt’, is currently on show within the Mount House Gallery, Marlborough College until 12th November 2017. Further information from Julia's website can be found at
