Prep School Heads’ of Art Creative Day

Category: Art

Marlborough College welcomed Heads of Art from sixteen prep schools for our inaugural event for creative discussion and the sharing of new initiatives, on Thursday 9th November.

Our visitors were firstly provided with informative talks and slide presentations within the Adderley, regarding the artistry achieved by our talented students at the College, alongside how weekly workshops and regular excursions are organised for our Art Scholars.

The delegates enthused over the breadth of experimental and risk-taking Co-curricular lessons that our Art Scholars and other pupils have received from the Art School beaks and our annually appointed Artist in Resident.

Discussions led onto a late morning visit to the Art School, where our visitors were given an insightful presentation by Julia Schuster, our 2017-18 Artist in Residence; Julia concisely explained her practice amongst her solo exhibition within the Mount House Gallery. Ian Wilkins, Art beak, also shared details regarding his creative workshops with our scholars.

Within the renowned Rabley Drawing Centre at Mildenhall, Wiltshire, the group received an introduction to the gallery, their artists and the educational work initiated and undertaken by director, Meryl Ainslee. My sincere thanks to Meryl, for her passionate and informative presentations.

On returning to the Art School, delegates gained the opportunity to view work created for an Art Scholar application to Marlborough College, by a number of our current Shell and Remove Art Scholars. As expected, this enabled our delegates to share invaluable observations and initiatives. Many thanks to our pupils for the excellent support of our event.

I have been delighted by the enthusiastic feedback from our visiting delegates, who were also so appreciative of this inaugural symposium. My thanks to the Master, Art School beaks, the Head of Art and the Admissions Department for their support, particularly Sue Swatton.
