This has been an outstanding year for Netball (the best yet!) with all teams playing 92 matches throughout the term winning 78 of these. The Open teams have had a record set of results only losing 4 matches out of all 5 teams.
Open VII
The 1st VII have been outstanding to work with and have made huge progress since beginning training in September. The team lost 2 fixtures at the start of a short term due to the bad weather which was disappointing. The girls have had a fantastic season with the highlight getting to the final of the invitational tournament and losing to one of the best schools in the country by 1 goal. Another highlight was beating Wellington College on the last match of the season 40-14. Their court play has been tactical and fluent and their individual skills have improved enormously. Jessie Nock (MM U6) has been a wonderful captain who has inspired the rest of the team. The team will say goodbye to 7 girls who have all been inspiratational in showing what hard work really means.
The 2nd VII have improved hugely throughout the season with Lexi Lazell (EL U6) and Georgie Everest (EL U6) playing some fantastic netball. This team have demonstrated excellent teamwork and Claudia Matthews (LI L6), Bea Barclay (NC L6) and Ellie Bonney (MO L6) have formed a successful shooting partnership.
The 3rd VII have had a pleasing season led by Mr Dennis. They have won 7 out of 8 matches and the game they lost was to Magdalen College 1st VII. Milly Hedges (MM U6), Amelia Parker (MM U6) and Georgia McVeigh (SU U6) have consistently been outstanding and must be commended for their exceptional performances week in week out.
The 4th VII have been kept motivated throughout and have been a credit to Mr Turner. The girls have had an unbeaten season winning 8 from 8. The highlight of their season has to be their penultimate game where the beat Canford by 1 goal meaning that they are the Ellis Cup winners. There have been top performances by Perdia Tate (PR U6), Eliza Hall (MM U6), Mimi Good (MM L6) and Alicia Norman (NC L6).
The 5th VII have shown excellent commitment and enthusiasm in training and there have been some excellent performances from Nancy Morrison (MM U6) and Emma Marlow (MM U6).
U16 VII
The U16’s have had a fairly successful season winning 5 out of their 7 matches. The team have shown excellent improvement throughout the season and worked with enthusiasm and motivation. There have been good performances from Lily Redpath (MM Hu), Charlotte Bawden (MM Hu) and Clemmie Keyes (MO Hu). The team have been a great credit to Mrs Worsley and Miss Batty and all of the girls will be competing next year for 1st VII places.
U15 VII
The U15’s have had am outstanding season winning 85% of their matches. The U15A team were unfortunate to lose their only game of the season against Wellington by 1 goal. All teams have shown excellent improvement and there have some encouraging performances from Jemima Jones (NC Re), Lara Keville (MO Re) and Livvi Hazlitt (MO Re).
U14 VII
The U14’s have been resilient and tenacious in nature and have shown a huge amount of potential, winning 83% of matches. Accurate shooting from Breagha Campbell (MM Sh), Honor Koe (MO Sh) and Hannah Cameron (IV S), quick centre court play from Georgia Gibson (EL Sh) and Amelia Hampel (NC Sh) as well as strong defence from Georgia Nicholas (MM Sh), Zinnia Stachel (EL Sh) and Katerina Mathinson (EL Sh) have been some additional highlights. The girls must be commended for coming 3rd at the regional tournament in January, the highest achievement from a Marlborough team at this level. The U14Bs must also be mentioned for winning all of their games.
