Off the back of outstanding fundraising projects as part of the L6th £10 Challenge, Ellen Arkwright (MM U6) and Alice Whelan (EL U6) were invited by Susie McCullum of Hope & Homes for Children to join the charity for some work experience during the Summer Holidays. Alice reports back on their experiences:
Ellen and I were lucky enough to have the chance to spend a week at the charity Hope & Homes for Children at their headquarters in Salisbury during August.
We were both inspired by Mark Cook, the founder of the Hope & Homes for Children, when he came to speak at Marlborough as part of the L6th training Day in January. Every member of the L6th was challenged to turn £10 in seed capital into £100 for the charity by taking on a fundraising initiative.
Ellen decided to create a CD containing nine recordings of different songs she had performed with the proceeds going straight to the charity. The launch of the CD was a great success and she managed to raise £600 for the charity.
I chose to do a mixture of methods to raise money for the charity including a raffle, selling good condition outdoors items, and working as a waitress and ended up raising £380.
We spent four days working in the offices at Hope & Homes for Children. During our visit we spent the majority of our time in the Community Fundraising Office. Here we managed to attend both the Staff and Media & Publicity Meetings, as well as working on projects such as a forthcoming charity Triathlon. Our week of work experience was really enjoyable. Working within the charity's offices was a great insight into the operation of an incredible charity and a very significant cause.
