On Monday 17th October, Global Action Group organised a World Food Day lunch in Norwood Hall. This followed presentations in assemblies for all year groups and poster campaigns around College over three weeks up to the event. Norwood Hall kindly agreed to provide only pasta, sauce, fruit and water - and nothing else available: a long shot from the multitude of options we usually have to choose from.
World Food Day is a global event, and although the topic this year was the instability of food prices, we chose to focus on a theme that can be directly associated with here: waste. 6 million litres of water are used each year to process the food wasted in Norwood, and to hit this point home, Mr Vaux kindly set up a web cam, 'waste-cam' to film the trays coming along the conveyor belt. This attracted a fair amount of attention and the Norwood staff reported that they had less washing up to do than ever before. The Global Action Group would like to thank all who were involved and hope that awareness of this global issue was heightened throughout the College community.
