Category: Community, General

The Master and members of staff gathered in Norwood Hall to congratulate Ron Jones, our Norwood Hall Supervisor, who will have given 60 years of service to Marlborough College this week.

Ron joined the Estate Department on 23rd April 1957 as an apprentice carpenter and joiner aged 15. Having learnt his trade he spent many years as Carpentry Foreman before taking over from Bob Cox as General Foreman in 1996. Ron held this position for 11 years before retiring in 2007 have spent 50 years working for Estates.

He was persuaded to take the position as Dining Hall Supervisor by Bob Pick in Michaelmas 2007 and has been in this post for a decade.

This is a family affair, as Ron's mother was the Housekeeper for the Master's Lodge under former Masters Dancy, Ellis and Cope. His father was Storeman in Norwood, and Ron's grandfather worked as a Groundsman.

Congratulations on this fine achievement Ron.
