Partnership Activity Update

Category: Community

It has been a busy first half of term of partnership activities with Swindon Academy, and St John’s, Marlborough.

This year, we have expanded our Swindon Academy Grammar Steam Latin teaching into Year 8, and each week we now teach a total of 80 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils.  Three College teachers are involved in delivering lessons on the classical world, as well as the Latin language.

Year 7 Academy Grammar Steam pupils have embarked upon a College based academic enrichment course with a visit to our Memorial Library, where they discovered how to use a library.

The residential programme recommenced with 12 Year 9 pupils staying overnight in Limebank, with one of their teachers.  The theme of the visit was Poetry, and the girls engaged in a range of poetry activities.

Our resident poet, Kayo Chingonyi, visited Swindon Academy to deliver two workshops to both Grammar Stream year-groups.

In November, 12 of our Remove (Year 10) pupils participated in a two-day pupil exchange with Swindon Academy pupils, with one day spent in each school.  This annual exchange provides pupils from both schools to experience a very different learning environment.

Then 30 Year 5 Academy primary school enjoyed a cultural visit, and after an Adderley cream-tea they visited the College Mummy, the site of the former Norman Castle on the Mound, and had a thrilling climb to the top of St Peter’s Church.

Fishing4schools, run by the Countryside Alliance, recently returned to deliver another excellent fishing course for six St John’s pupils.  This laboratory and river course is an excellent introduction to fly-fishing on the College stretch of the River Kennet.
