Compline for Ash Wednesday

Category: Music

On Wednesday 1st March at 9.10pm, the Chamber Choir and Compline Choir joined forces to sing a beautifully reflective, candlelit service of Compline for Ash Wednesday.

The two groups are made up of the most senior and experienced members of the Chapel Choir, many of them former Cathedral choristers. Alongside the plainsong required, the Compline Choir sang Anerio’s little known miniature-masterpiece Christus Factus Est, and the psalm was sung to the celebrated setting by Gregorio Allegri (Miserere Mei), with the Chamber Choir at the east end of Chapel alternating with the Compline Choir at the west.

It was a wonderful, thought-provoking service with a very special atmosphere.
