British Physics Olympiad results: Four pupils qualified to enter the 2017 British Physics Olympiad Round 1 competition in November. While James Eyles (LI U6) and Isabella Nicholson (SU U6) were commended for their efforts in this extremely demanding 3 hour paper, Simran Chowdhry (LI U6) gained a Silver award and Tuomas Laakkonen (B1 U6) a Gold award. These are significant achievements and we warmly congratulate all four pupils.

(B1 Hu) is the current British Schools’ 50-metre Small-bore Junior Champion. This is in addition to the Long Range, Full-bore Championships at Bisley last July, where he became Junior Champion at the Schools Imperial Meeting.

(C3 L6) has been picked for the U18 Wales Development Squad. 

In the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge, an impressive 61 students achieved a medal this year with nine pupils entering the follow-up Senior Kangaroo or Olympiad. 

Ben Place (C1) topped the school with a considerable score of 111 and qualified for the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1, an impressive feat for a pupil still in the Hundred. Simran Chowdhry (LI), Zach Place (CO) have scored the highest in their respective years and qualified for the Senior Kangaroo follow on round. They are joined by gold and silver medal winners Tuomas Laakonnen (B1), Wiliam Cheng (C2), Molly Gibbins (CO), Jon Lam (C1), Virat Talwar (C2) and Arlie Mahony (C1).

Meanwhile in the Remove Jamie Porter (TU) came top of his year group with an excellent Silver medal. 


Over the first weekend of November, the Netball U19, U16 and U14 squads all qualifying for the South West Regional Tournament, to be held in Bournemouth on Saturday 27th January 2018. 


In the British Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Challenge, Simran Chowdhry (LI U6) and Tuomas Laakkonen (B1 U6) gained Distinctions. Molly Gibbins (CO U6) and Zac Place (CO, L6) gained Merits. Congratulations to all.

Sophie Smith (DA Re) was successful at the ESFA South West U15 Trial in Bristol – one of 16 selected, from 51 girls, to proceed to the next trial stage. She is now just two games away from representing England Schools level.

The Marlborough Riding team had a successful day at the National Championships on Sunday 22nd October.

The team finished fifth in the Open Show Jumping and sixth in the Open Arena Eventing.  This was a fantastic achievement, competing against teams from all over the country who had qualified by winning or finishing second in their respective regional competitions. 

The team comprised Imo Brook (MM L6), Violet Elworthy (MO L6), Daisy Mitford-Slade (MM L6) and Jemima Stratton (MM Hu).


Congratulations to Simran Chowdhry (LI U6) on gaining a letter of commendation from Professor Arunachalam Ramanan at the Department of Chemistry of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, - one of India’s foremost Universities. Read the full story here.

Sara (EL Re) and Allie Kirkwood (DA Re) were both successful in their trials to join the England Lacrosse Talent pathway in early September.  They will join Honor Mills (EL Re) and Claudie Grainger (IH Hu) who have already been selected.

On Saturday 9th September, four members of the shooting team took part in the Target Sprint National Finals at Yate. In the Youth Men category, Jason Kellinger (C3 Hu) finished fifth and Ed Robinson (B1 Hu) sixth. The Junior Women section saw Claudie Grainger (IH Hu) finish fifth and Ibby Lee (NC U6) in seventh.

Ella Warner (MM Re) has recently been selected for the Team Bath Netball Futures Academy. Scarlet Thurner (NC Sh) has been selected for the Surrey Storm U15 Development Programme. Ariana Jones (IH Re) and Harriet Eyles (MM Hu) have been selected for the Wiltshire County Netball Academy.

Charlotte Longden (NC Re) has been selected to train with the performance athletics group at Bath University.  She joins Ellie Spark (MM U6) who already trains there.

Zachary Place (CO L6) came in the top 12 pupils nationally in this summer's exam and will be awarded a Presidential certificate from the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS). He has also been invited to submit a poster to be presented at a meeting of the RAS in Burlington House, Piccadilly later in the academic year.

Harriet Eyles (MM Hu) is currently ranked 40th in the UK at U16, is now rated a 3.1 and has just been told last week that she has been selected for the Wiltshire Ladies' Tennis Team (as well as the County U18 team) this year. She had a successful summer competing both in the UK and Europe. She reached the semi-finals in the UK U18 singles National event at Bath and made the doubles finals in U16 events in Belgium and Amsterdam.
