The impressive NatWest Schools Cup run came to an end for the XV on Tuesday afternoon after a 15-11 defeat to RGS High Wycombe.

In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the XV made a solid start to the encounter with plenty of possession against a physical RGS side.

Charlie Norman, who started the game at full-back, edged the XV in front with a penalty which proved to be the difference between the sides at the break. The visitors got themselves into the game with an unconverted try five minutes into the second half. The Marlborough response was a good one, with Alex Andrews finishing well for the first home try of the game to regain the lead at 8-5.

A well-struck penalty from Norman further increased the lead to 11-5 before the visitors struck back with their second try of the afternoon – this time RGS added the extras to regain the lead 11-12.

A penalty on the stroke of full-time secured the victory for the Buckinghamshire side.
