Report: Rugby Sevens

Category: Rugby, General, Sport

Congratulations to the XV sevens’ side who reached the final of the Canford Sevens tournament on Sunday 26th February.

Due to illness and prior commitments, a squad of just ten made the trip but they performed extremely well with a 46-0 win over Sexey’s in the opening group game. There were then wins over Millfield (15-10) and King’s School Bruton (36-7). Despite a narrow defeat to King Edward’s Bath (7-10), Marlborough progressed through to the semi-final in some style, coming from behind to win thanks to a 22-19 victory over Beechen Cliff.

The final proved to be a step too far against a disciplined Wellington side who pressed hard in defence. Well done to Colts players Will Cook (SU Hu) and Charlie Cooke (PR Hu) who stepped up and featured in the final.

The results of the XV reflect the hard work they have continually put in since September which is an indication of how long it takes to get a form of Conditioning in place. Our next two tournaments will get harder and harder with the opposition we face so more work on conditioning will take place.

My thanks to coaches Steve Clayton and Ben Pullen for the day in what was a great team effort.
