National Success for Riding Team

Category: Sport, General, Pupil Achievements

On Saturday 27th January, the Marlborough open riding team qualified for the National Schools’ Equestrian Associate (NSEA) eventer challenge Championships, to be held at Hickstead at the end of May.

Team qualification was achieved by Imo Brook (MM L6), Daisy Mitford-Slade (MM L6), Milo Kennedy (PR Hu) and Jemima Stratton (MM Hu) whilst congratulations also go to Jonah Kennedy (PR Sh) who joined Daisy and Jemima in qualifying as individuals.

The Marlborough riders were a credit to the school; well done to all the children, especially those on new ponies, of which there were a few.  It was also the first time out this season for quite a few combinations, so it was a good opportunity to blow away the cobwebs.

In the 90 SJ Windsor qualifier, the team were fifth out of 18 teams, with Daisy and Hope Nicholson (MM L6) going clear.  The odd fence down in the 1m meant that, although there were super clears from Violet Elworthy (MO L6), Daisy, Milo and Rosie Olver (EL Re), the teams had to settle for eighth and ninth place. In the 1.10 elite individual SJ class, Marlborough took the lion’s share of the prizes, with Jemima first and fourth, Milo fifth and Violet sixth.

The Eventer Challenge classes indoors caused all sorts of problems with their twisty courses and timed section.  In the 90, Jonah earned a well-deserved first place and qualification for the Championships at Hickstead in May with a very fast clear round.  In the 1m, Jemima and Daisy did impressive rounds to come first and second respectively, with the team (plus Imo Brook (MM L6) and Milo) coming 1st overall, gaining qualification for the Championships at Hickstead.  Third place went to the team of Violet, Milo, Rosie and Jemima.

Thank you so much to all the children, parents and to Mrs Lane, for getting children and horses there and supporting everyone so well.
