Historic victory for Netballers

Category: Sport, General, Pupil Achievements

The 1st VII netball team made history on Saturday, being the first Marlborough group to win the annual Bradfield College Invitational Tournament.

With a total of 13 teams in attendance, the girls had a wonderful opportunity to pitch their play against new opposition in the shape of Epsom College and St Gabriel’s, as well as facing the more familiar Bradfield and Dauntsey’s sides.

With one loss encountered in the early stages of the day, Marlborough finished second in their group and went on to face a strong Wellington outfit in the semi-final. Six-all at half-time with tensions fraught, Marlborough pushed on to win the game 14 v 11. From here Marlborough would face St Mary’s Ascot in the final, a side who earlier in the day had edged a one goal victory. In a superb display of netball, Marlborough won the final 7 v 6 and were duly presented with their winners’ medals. The Marlborough team were positive, organised and determined throughout, and these qualities really shone through. Ella Warner was awarded Player of the Tournament for her sharp shooting under pressure as she continues to shine on the Senior circuit at just 15 years of age.
