Malones Match v. Common Room

OMs Mike Roberts, Tom Geddes and Alex Greer

Category: General, Rugby, Community

On Sunday, 18th September the Marlborough College staff team was up against an ever impressive Marlborough Malones side in the biennial rugby match. The staff team played well despite a torrential downpour during the game (with lightning in the distance), but eventually conceded defeat (0-5) to the Malones.

There was a huge drive, led by Emily Geddes (NC U6) and Will Eversfield (C3 U6), in the week preceding the match to raise awareness of both the game and the charities supported by the Malones. T-shirts emblazoned with the Malones Charity Fund logo were sold in College in order to raise money for the charities.

The OM Rugby match was started in 2005 in memory of two OMs who tragically died of cancer at a young age, Hugo McDermott (B1 1998-2001) and Tom Waley-Cohen (C3 1998-2003). The biennial match aims to raise funds for two very worthwhile charities which the Marlborough Malones, the OM Rugby Club, is proud to support: Tom's Ward, a children's ward at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and the Samantha Dixon Brain Tumour Trust.  This year over £700 was raised from the sale of the T-shirts.
