Evening Pupils’ Recital

Category: General, Music, Events

The first major recital of the term was an Evening Pupils’ Recital, which ostensibly served as a ‘dry run’ for forthcoming major public performances for Music Scholars.

A concert of predominantly ambitious chamber music so early in the school year (just three weeks in) is a potentially dangerous occasion, particularly when considering that many of the groups featured were not Upper Sixth seasoned performers.  Nevertheless, there was much to commend with some brave and spirited performances that bodes well for the year ahead and beyond.

Special mention should be given to Molly Corfield (MM L6) and Florence Tuckey (EL Re) for a flamboyant percussion duo performance, and to Ciara Parker-Northeast (CO U6), Eleanor Tuckey (EL U6), James Wright (C1 L6) and Miss Toomer for producing some characterful playing in Mozart’s tricky G minor Piano Quartet.

The recital concluded with three outstanding solo contributions from top U6 Music Scholars, Jonathan Venn – voice (C3 U6), Sarah Mattinson - flute (MM U6), and Helena Mackie - oboe (MO U6), all of whom mesmerised with the finesse, musicianship and class we have come to expect from these three top Marlburians over the years.
