Prep School Debating Competition

Category: General, Community, Academic

This weekend saw the College play host to five Prep schools (Windlesham House, Farleigh School, St Hugh’s School, The Pilgrims' School, and Ashfold School) for a debating workshop and inner-school competition.

Aided by some of the College's most distinguished debaters, pupils were put through their paces during a morning of debating workshops, focused on improving their public speaking skills and the tricky art of delivering an argument 'persuasively'.

The highlight of the day came in the afternoon when ten pupils took part in a large debate on the motion: 'This House Believes the Arts are more important than the Sciences'. Unsurprisingly, the audience of parents and teachers witnessed a very interesting and articulate debate.

Julia Hodgson, Director of Admissions at Marlborough, rightly commended each pupil on their exceptional performances and judged Windlesham House to be this year's winner, with Lochie Peake from St Hugh's School judged the Best Speaker.

Further congratulations must be given to Muna Mba and Ben Cole (Windlesham House), Lucas Ali-Hassan Kaelen (The Pilgrims’ School), Freddie Covill (Farliegh School), and Rurairi Massie (Ashfold School) who all received Highly Commended awards.
