Chris Cutforth Memorial Service

Category: General

Having run the family farm for many years Chris Cutforth volunteered his time to running and coaching hockey teams at Marlborough.

He was an established figure on the cricket and hockey pitches having begun his Marlborough coaching career in 1961.

His skills on grass during staff matches were legendary as was the shout of 'bikini', a code word for the fact that the forwards and backs had spread out far too much, to the teams he coached.

An Old Wellingtonian, he turned out many times for the Marlborough Blues. Along with Charles Whatley, he also ran Wiltshire Schoolboys Hockey for a number of years.

Chris was a great friend to Marlborough College and the generations of Marlburian hockey players that came across his kindness, skill and wit will have very fond memories. His ability to make sessions engaging and innovative, despite the often freezing temperatures on Wedgwood, were appreciated by the range of sides he coached.

He retired from coaching at Marlborough in 2005 aged 80.

His Memorial Service will be held at The Chapel of St Michael and All Angels at Marlborough College on Saturday 20th January 2018 at 3pm.
