Norwegian-born philanthropist Fred Kavli awarded seven scientists his first batch of $1 million prizes for astrophysics, neuroscience and nanotechnology on Wednesday 28th May. Half the astrophysics prize was awarded to Donald Lynden-Bell (C3 1948-53) of Cambridge University for his work on quasars, or active, bright centres of galaxies far away. |
