On 1 May 2009, Christopher Spray (C1 1966-71) took up the post of Professor of Water Science and Policy in the UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science at Dundee University.

Freddy Syborn (B1 2000-05) has been awarded a First at Cambridge (even though biblical and Victorian literature dominated the papers) and he has won the university creative writing prize again!

Adam Eales (PR 2002-07) has been awarded a Class I in Chemical Engineering Tripos Part I, 2009 from the University of Cambridge.

Michael Crow (PR 1956–60) has been appointed to a Temminck Fellowship at the Naturalis Natural History Museum, Leiden where he is working on the geological setting of the Permian forests in Sumatra, Indonesia.

James Geddes TU 2002-07) has been awarded the Army Undergraduate Bursary. James is now studying at degree at Newcastle University and is due to attend the Commissioining Course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst in September 2010.

Alexander Shirreff (BH 2002-07) has also been awarded the Army Undergraduate Bursary. Alex has now started his degree at Durham University and is due to attend the Commissioining Course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst in September 2011.

Jack Gilbert (C1 2002-07) has been promoted to a Newman Scholarship in recognition of his academic progress at Balliol, Oxford.

Roman Roth (BH 1994-96) has been appointed as a lecturer in Classics at the School of Languages and Literatures, University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Gianna Vaughan (CO 2002-04) has gained a first in history from Peterhouse, Cambridge

Tom Spencer (LI 1998-2003) has gained a First in Mechanical Engineering at University College, Durham.

Norwegian-born philanthropist Fred Kavli awarded seven scientists his first batch of $1 million prizes for astrophysics, neuroscience and nanotechnology on Wednesday 28th May. Half the astrophysics prize was awarded to Donald Lynden-Bell (C3 1948-53) of Cambridge University for his work on quasars, or active, bright centres of galaxies far away.

In 2007 Jim Follett was awarded the Rosalind Dickson prize for gaining the highest overall mark for his music degree at Durham University.

Amelia Sherman has been selected for an Entrance Exhibition Award at the University of Dublin in 2007.

In 2007, Jack Simonds was awarded a 2.1 degree in Geography from UCL.  During 2008 he will be studying Mandarin in Beijing for 18 months.
