The weather was very kind on 6th October and a huge gathering of over 350 attended. The Reunion this year was for those joining the College prior to 1956 and it was a great joy to see so many familiar faces from that vintage.
The day started with one of the best attended AGMs in recent times and was skilfully presided over by Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen, on his last day as President. The Master also spoke most fluently and entertainingly and the President Elect, Tony Hill, also spoke well.
A moving Service in Chapel followed, with a marvellous contribution by the College Choir, but the singing of the OMs present most certainly raised the rafters and brought back memories of days of yore!
Nicholas and Nancy Sampson then hosted a most enjoyable Reception in the Marlburian Club and a convivial lunch followed in the Norwood Hall. Guided tours of the College then took place but many OMs preferred to watch the XV playing Wellington College, while some sneaked away to watch the England XV beating Australia on the TVs provided. Many others took advantage of the excellent Exhibition in the College Archives on ‘The Garnett Years at Marlborough 1952-61’ and a ‘Centenary Exhibition on Louis MacNeice’ (C3 1921-26) before taking a first rate tea in the Adderley to conclude a most enjoyable day. |
