James Wood: Racing Driver (C1 1986-90) - All in a Day's Work
|
A day's work for Old Marlburian racing driver James Wood (C1 1986-90) is never dull.
James recently took part in the Press Day for the 'Goodwood Festival of Speed', an annual celebration of motorsport at Goodwood House. www.goodwood.co.uk He said, "It was all in a day's work for me; my driving duties include testing, coaching and consulting as well as racing. Media events are an important part of my work as they are valuable marketing opportunities."
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place on 3rd-4th July this year, attracts 150,000 people over the three days. This year's theme is 'True Grit; epic feats of endurance'. It is a unique opportunity to see a very varied collection of vehicles and drivers close-up and in action. Spectators, owners, drivers and vehicles - including many current and previous world champions - come from all over the world: Lewis Hamilton and Stirling Moss have confirmed their participation once again.
James drove the 1967 Porsche 911-R prototype which he will be driving at the Festival. Despite driving rain and dense fog, the Porsche won the 'Marathon de la Route' - an 84 hour race at the famous Nürburgring circuit in Germany - winning with an incredible margin of over one hour.
James will also drive in the 'Supercar Run', which involves a group of new high-performance roadcars; for example, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Invicta, Aston Martin, McLaren, Maserati.
It certainly beats crawling round the M25 in the morning! |
