Francis Chamberlain  (C2 1973-77)  

Francis George Neville Chamberlain (C2 1973-77) has been appointed a salaried judge of the First-tier Tribunal of the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber, to exercise the mental health jurisdiction within that Chamber in the Northern region, with effect from September 14, 2009. Neville, 49, was called to the Bar (L) in 1985 and was appointed as a fee-paid tribunal judge of the First-tier Tribunal in 2004.

Phillip Rowland Mattthews  (B3 1961-65)  

Philip Rowland Matthews  (B3 1961-65) has been appointed a circuit judge assigned to the South Eastern Circuit, based at Isleworth Crown Court with effect from July 28, 2009. Phillip was called to the Bar (I) in 1974 and was appointed as an assistant recorder in 1990 and as a recorder in 1993.

Commodore Allan Adair (C2 1965-69) recently was heard on BBC Radio 4 talking about his time as Commander of the British Forces in Gibraltar.

Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen, CB, OBE (C2 1955-60), a former Club President (2006-07) has been appointed as Governor and Constable of Windsor Castle.

Nick Donnithorne (BH 1984-89)

In the 20 years since leaving Marlborough, Nick Donnithorne (BH 1984-89) received a scholarship to read history at Manchester University, was commissioned as an Army Officer and qualified as a solicitor. He currently heads the UK Pensions Law Practice of the firm in which he is a Partner and has practised Law in the UK and in Central Europe.

James Newcome  (TU 1966-71)  

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Right Reverend James William Scobie Newcome (TU 1966-71), at present Suffragan Bishop of Penrith, as Bishop of Carlisle. Bishop James formally takes up his appointment at a service, traditionally called an enthronement, in the autumn.

Jonathan Grant-Nicholas  (B2 1958-62)  

Jonathan Grant-Nicholas (B2 1958-62) has retired as Communications Director of Greencore Group plc and is living in Derbyshire. His youngest daughter studied music under Peter Malcolm (LI 1960-64) who recently retired as Director of Music at St Anselhm`s School, Bakewell and lives in the next village.

Ali Muhriz (BH 1990-95) has been proclaimed the ninth Tunku Besar - the most senior among the Putera Yang Empat (Four Princes) of Malaysia. His duties include supervising the Royal Court, advising the ruler and overseeing palace officials.

Richard Fleck, chairman of the Auditing Practices Board, is named a CBE for services to business and the legal profession in the Queen's New Year's Honours list 2009.

Brigadier James Bashall, CBE, is to become Director Army Division of the Defence Academy at Shrivenham from January 2009.

Ben Leefield (SU 1980-85)  
After 15 years as a chartered surveyor developing commercial and residential property, Ben has founded the people search website WikiWorldBook. The website incorporates a Global Address Book (where people can be easily found via search engines like Google and then contacted without exposing their contact details) and is currently expanding to include a product and business directory.

Mark Hopper (C1 1990-95) has gained an LLB with Distinction from the College of Law, Guildford.

George Irwin  (PR 1996-2001),  

George Irwin (PR 1996-2001), having given up a place at the RMA Sandhurst, is currently working at the late David Rattray’s Fugitives’ Drift Lodge in South Africa. Rattray, world-renowned for his battlefield tours and lectures at the Royal Geographic Society, was murdered in January last year at his Fugitives’ Drift home.George, alongside Rattray’s other battlefield guides, conducts lectures on the battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu War, particularly the battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana. Rorke’s Drift made famous by the film Zulu; the battle of Isandlwana saw the death of an Old Marlburian, Lt. Colonel Henry Pulleine (C3 1848-53)

Nick Cooke-Priest

Nick Cooke-Priest is currently Second-in-Command of HMS Gloucester, a type 42 Destroyer.

Colin Cooke-Priest  (LI 1953-57)  

Colin Cooke-Priest is the first full career Naval Officer to be elected Master of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators in London. He will take up his post in 2009, the centenary of Naval Aviation. Colin will continue as the senior Gentleman Usher to HM The Queen until the end of next Summer when he will retire after 15 years service.

James Cooke-Priest has been appointed to the Board of Brand Events as International Development Director. He is currently working on 'Top Gear Live', a touring, live motoring stunt theatre, created by the Top Gear team. 

Major Mark Whittle  (C1 1985-89)  

Major Mark Whittle (C1 1985-89) was awarded an MBE for his 3 years as a Battery Commander in 32 Regiment Royal Artillery. During that time 22 (Gibraltar 1779-1783) Battery Royal Artillery completed three operational tours to Iraq. Their most significant achievement was the introduction, under immense time pressure, of two completely new Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. These are used as an ‘eye in the sky’ providing vital information to soldiers on the ground. The intelligence they gather helps both to defeat insurgents and to save soldiers’ lives.

Peter Macdonald (B1 – 1997-2002)

On 30th May in well-known exclusive Paris night-spot “Le Baron”, Peter Macdonald (B1–1997-02) launched his clothing brand “Empire’s Union”. The party was attended by Zoe Marden (LI 2001-03), Kate Fahie (PR 2000-02), her father David Fahie (C2-1963-67) as well as Martin Evans, Christopher Wicker (LI 1968-72) and OM Club Chairman Tony Hill (CO 1949-53) all of whom just happened to be passing for the OM Paris Dinner and managed to beat the Club’s door policy. Empire’s Union - www.empiresunion.com - explores the relationship between graphics and cut of clothing For older OMs, Peter’s grandfather, Henry Bett, and four Bett great-uncles were all in B1 between the wars.

Ben Brandon-King has moved to Amsterdam, Holland where he currently works as a Portfolio Manager for a large European investment fund management company.

Professor Christopher Richard Watkin Edwards (LI 1955-60) has been honoured with a Knighthood for services to Higher Education, Medical Science and to Regeneration in the North East in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2008

Christopher MacGowan (B3 1960-64)

Christopher MacGowan (B3 1960-64) was awarded an OBE for services to the automotive industry in the Queen's Birthday Honours List on 14 June. Christopher joined the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in June 1999 as Chief Executive. He is a Freeman of the City of London, a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry and a member of the CBI Trade Association Council.

Eve Peasnall

The Mount House Gallery presented a successful exhibition of recent figurative paintings and drawings by Eve Peasnall (MO 1991-96)entitled Un-sleeping between 27th April - 18th May 2008. Un-sleeping represents the absurdity of a search for serenity that is perpetually thwarted by imaginings, which make a comical refusal to quiet down.

Ho Ming Frances Lee (C1 1991-96)

Brother Justin - known to OMs as Ho Ming Francis Lee (C1 1991-96) - will be ordained Deacon for the Roman Catholic Community of St John, France on 21st June. He asks you to pray for him at this most important moment in his consecration.

Richard Campbell (B1 1955-59) was awarded the OBE in the Birthday Honours list 2007 for 'services to the pig industry'. He was a commissioner of the Meat and Livestock Commission from 1998-2002. He has also been a Magistrate for 25 years.

A W Gill (BH 1996-2000)

Alexander Gill (BH 1996-2000) passed out of Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and joined the Royal Welsh in May 2008.

Leonie Purchas, last year's winner of the Arts Foundation Fellowship for photography, exhibited at The International Festival of Photography, Rome at the Palazzo delle esposizione. Dr James Morison (B1 1969-74), has been appointed Head of Environmental Change Group, Environmental and Human Science Division. The work of the division encompasses environmental monitoring and change, carbon dynamics, land reclamation, soil sustainability, heritage and archaeology, and forest hydrology.

Frances Hamel (PR 1977-81)

Francis Hamel was invited by Fortnum & Mason to produce a collection of paintings at five different locations throughout the store, as an integral part of the store’s top to toe refurbishment in its Tercentenary year. Fortnum & Mason Chairman, Jana Khayat, said: ‘Francis Hamel is typical of our choice of artists, being young, exciting and talented, and displaying an innate empathy for the store.’ The project was completed on the 13th March 2008.

Professor Alan Gillett (C2 1944-48)

Professor Alan Gillett (C2 1944-48) was awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List. His award is for contributions to the community and services to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
