Francis Hamel was invited by Fortnum & Mason to produce a collection of paintings at five different locations throughout the store, as an integral part of the store’s top to toe refurbishment in its Tercentenary year. Fortnum & Mason Chairman, Jana Khayat, said: ‘Francis Hamel is typical of our choice of artists, being young, exciting and talented, and displaying an innate empathy for the store.’ The project was completed on the 13th March 2008. |

The Secretary much enjoyed the Book Launch of David Conville's most interesting history of The Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park entitled 'The Park', which will be reviewed by Hugh Massingberd in the next edition of the Club Magazine. David formed the New Shakespeare Company in 1962 and directed many splendid productions at The Open Air Theatre. Many actors and actresses were present who had performed at The Open Air Theatre such as Margaret Tyzack, Celia Imrie and Edward Fox and two OMs were among them - Michael Elwyn, formerly Emrys-Jones, (B3 1956-61) and Leo Conville (C1 1992-97) who acted there only last year. |

The Journal contains an illustrated account of his career and a complete list of the 171 books and papers that he has had published. |

Congratulations to Sir Mark Malloch Brown, the retiring Deputy Secretary General of the UN, who was awarded a KCMG in the New Year's Honours List. Sir Mark lives in New York and is a keen OM and gave the Lent Lecture at the College last March (see Club Magazine p. 74) and spoke at the OM Dinner in New York last April 2006. |

Passing out at Sandhurst: The 2006 Sovereign’s Parade at Sandhurst saw the passing out of two recent OMs, Henry Tuggey (TU 96-01) who will be joining the Royal Green Jackets and Alex Perkins (PR 00-05) who has been accepted into the Scots Guards and who will be the youngest officer in the British Army. The day started with a traditional Chapel Service and was followed by an magnificent parade, which was watched, among others, by Kate Middleton (EL 96-00)

Simon Gammell (LI 1967-71) was recently awarded the OBE for Services to the British Council in Australia. He was Head of the Council when Lord Goodlad (SU 1957-61) was our High Commissioner in Canberra. Simon has now been posted to Mumbai in India. |
