Personal Background

Became involved in golf administration rather by default when elected to the Council of the English Golf Union in 1968 (no one else in Somerset was interested).  Ran the South West Juniors coaching scheme for 15 years , served as Chairman of Finance and Treasurer and elected President of the English Golf Union in 1990.  Subsequently served on several committees of the R&A, including Chairman of the Amateur Status Committee and as a qualified referee officiated at many major professional and amateur events throughout the world.

Played golf for Somerset from 1966-77 and represented Marlborough in the Halford Hewitt for 29 years with over 50 matches in partnership with John Uzielli, past Club Secretary.

Other sporting interests include skiing, tobogganing (Cresta Run), Real Tennis and rackets and am currently involvedwith various charities and the local church.
